He echado de menos
Hay numerosas grabaciones de ambos como sidemen, pero ninguna nueva como líderes.
Gerald Cleaver es uno de los más originales y capaces batería de hoy: las alabanzas de Jack DeJohnette no son vanas. Su generoso álbum con sus Veil of Names para Fresh Sound, con una espectacular reimaginación del jazzrock, no ha tenido continuidad.
Las grandes aportaciones de Tony Malaby se encuentran a puñados, el pasado año fue puntera la de Time-space Modulator del Bauhaus Quartet de Kevin Norton, este año, laincluida en el CD de Kris Davis The Slightest Shift. Sus intensas exploraciones en el fraseo y el sonido son de lo más fascinante de la escena. Pero tampoco hay disco nuevo a su nombre, como tampoco lo ha habido de Kurt Elling tras su tour de force Man in the Air. En este caso su paso a Concord quizás lo explique.
Un momento único
La entrada de Rebecca Martin en On Broadway Vol.4, The Paradox of Continuity de Paul Motian, un álbum nada cómodo, reunido extrañamente, y que mueve al extrañamiento. El primer contacto con la voz en el rumoroso cuarteto instrumental, fantasmal.
